It’s getting cold outside and it’s that time of year when lazy evenings in front of the TV isn’t frowned upon. Therefore, there’s no time like the present to discover some awesome shows on cable that you may develop an obsession for (No judgement). From computer geeks to crime sprees to stand-up comedy, 2015 has had no shortage of great shows to check out. So if you’re ready for a new guilty pleasure, here’s our picks for the best shows on cable that will keep you hooked.

Louie (FX)

Stand-up comedy buffs rejoice as Louie is the perfect combination of a refreshing narrative and a comedy routine. Created by comedian, Louis C.K, it’s based on the life of a newly divorced, single father of two living in New York City. Intertwined with segments of original stand-up material performed in New York City comedy clubs, this show is a realistic view into an up and coming comedian’s life. Louis C.K has received critical acclaim for this refreshingly unique delivery of a loosely connected plot that still hits hard with comedy fans all over.

Big Time in Hollywood, FL (Comedy Central)

Combine the slapstick humor of Step Brothers with the dark, satirical value of Breaking Bad and you get Comedy Central’s very first sitcom – Big Time in Hollywood, FL. Executive produced by funnyman, Ben Stiller, the show chronicles the tale of two 20-something brothers that get kicked out of their parent’s house to fend for themselves. Add their dreams of becoming famous indie-cult directors and an unfortunate venture into “alternative” methods to support themselves into the mix and you’ve struck dark comedy gold. Comedy Central may be mostly known for stand-up but they’ve hit the mark with this unexpected sitcom.

Game of Thrones (HBO)

Unless you’ve been on a major pop culture sabbatical, there’s no doubt you’ve heard of the gigantic, medieval-fantasy hit on HBO – Game of Thrones. Everything from the plot, cinematography, costumes to the dynamic acting is truly an experience and it’s easy to see why GOT is arguably one of the biggest TV hits of recent years. While it’s hard to summarize dragons, knights, renegades and the ultimate battle over a throne into one paragraph, this show is definitely worth checking out.

Silicon Valley (HBO)

While we tried our best to select shows that are evenly distributed among the networks, we couldn’t resist mentioning another gem on HBO. Perfectly depicting the unique, tech start-up culture prominent in Silicon Valley, CA, this show is an honestly hilarious take on the lives of the 20-somethings that have spear-headed the startup movement. But don’t expect a Mark Zuckerberg success story here. You’ll see everything from social awkwardness, giant “techy” mishaps and hilariously authentic anecdotes that the start-up world is known for. Watch out Big Bang Theory, Silicon Valley is the new, gloriously geeky kid on the block.

Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown (CNN)

Anthony Bourdain’s show documenting his travel expeditions to exotic lands has been on the air for quite some time and is still going strong. One of CNN’s most popular non-news related shows, renown chef, Anthony Bourdain, explores corners of the world that aren’t known to be very “touristy”. He gives you a taste of the breath-taking scenery, food and culture that each mesmerizing place has to offer. The show has featured exotic places such as Sri Lanka, Burma and Brazil. And how can you resist a show that is entertaining AND educational? We thought so. So if you’re feeling a bit guilty about embarking on yet another cable addiction, rest assured you’ll be expanding your cultural knowledge as well.

We are confident that this list of dynamic shows is all you’ll need to keep busy this winter season. And come summer, there’s always DVR.
