There is so much to do in Seattle and the majority of it is family friendly. I didn’t grow up in the state of Washington. I’ve lived in Seattle for 12 years, I’ve found Seattle to be very laid back and relaxed. We may be in a hurry to our next activity but we’re all dressed comfortably and ready for an adventure. So, if you’re looking for a family adventure Seattle, here are 10 places to take your family.
The Space Needle
The iconic Space Needle is in the Seattle Center along with a lot of other attractions. The Space Needle was built for the World’s Fair and still stands tall as the heart of Seattle. The top is painted for whatever occasion Seattle is celebrating and inside there is an amazing restaurant that spins so you always have a new view of Seattle. The restaurant is a little pricey but when you consider that it includes tickets for the whole family to go to the observation level, it’s a fair price.
The Purple Café and Wine bar is perfect for young and old. Adults can enjoy a flight of wine from different countries while the children can experience a flight of milk. The menu is creative, fresh and paired with wine. Of course, you can choose your own wine but it’s quite a treat to try the food with the wine they suggest, and you have to try dessert even if it’s just the cheese tray.
Pike Place Market
Pike Place Market, known as the place where they throw fish in Seattle. They even let customers try if they are brave enough, I never have been. You will also find local florists, restaurants and other merchants selling their crafts. I love to go there, while you are there, you have to go visit the gum wall that is just behind the market in the alley. Plus if you tweet at The Seattle Pig she will tweet you back, she loves to have her photo taken.
The Fremont Troll
The Troll in Fremont is something on my bucket list of things to do. It’s certainly well hidden but just something you have to go see. Fremont’s neighborhood trolls have come a long way from the terrifying Trolls of legend. They have, in fact, become quite civilized, fun loving local celebrities. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see one and you might see a picture of one in the local sandwich shop.
The Dahlia Lounge
If you are looking for an excellent bakery or the best brunch around you have to try Tom Douglas’Dahlia Lounge. You can enjoy lunch or dinner there as well. They have been serving Seattle organic fresh food for 20 years, my favorite dishes there include a good dose of ginger.
Greenlake is the perfect place to visit for outdoor activities. You can walk around the entire lake, let your kids play in the wading pool or on the beach. You’ll find many families there with pets, bikes, and roller skates. You can rent paddle boats and paddle boards, there’s also a park across from the beach for the kids to play. The Children’s Museum
and Seattle Monorail
Also located in the Seattle Center is the Children’s museum. The museum is full of different exhibits and opportunities for your children to explore. There are storybook characters, nature exhibits, and many more hands on activities to explore. When you’re done with the museum, kids love rides on the Monorail which takes you to other tourist locations in Seattle closer to the water, it’s only a block or two away from Pike Place Market.
The Pacific Science Center
or Experience Music Project
Depending on if you want a day full of science or a day full of music you need to stop at one of these two places in the Seattle Center. The Science Center includes a butterfly pavilion and the iMax Theater. The Experience Music Project lets you experience the history of music in fun way. They often host Science Fiction exhibits that we always love to go see.
The Seattle Aquarium
The Seattle Aquarium is right on the water as part of one of the piers. One of the many improvements to the museum is the huge water tank where you can see the caretakers feed the fish and ask them question while they are inside the tank. You also get to meet the great octopus and hear of her great escape story.
Barrio Mexican Kitchen and Bar
Another favorite restaurant of ours is Barrio Mexican Kitchen and Bar. Barrio has amazing Mexican flavors in their food that the whole family enjoys. Barrio is a restaurant that combines Mexican cuisine with innovative craft cocktails in an energetic urban environment. Every Monday you can enjoy half off Tequila & Mezcal while they also serve up a complimentary sangrita chaser.
